New year, new me!

Sofie Claes January 1, 2019

Happy New Year, guys!

The first day of the new year is always something special. It’s a new start, time to become the best version of yourself. For me this means making some resolutions for the new year.

I’m already fulfilling the first one: volunteering a little more. Today I’m helping out at a dog shelter in Spain. So many dogs are all alone on the streets and the shelter is helping them get fed and walked with.

As promised, here’s the tutorial on how to make the shirt that goes with the dungarees I made last week.

Have fun!

 Dollie

The mountains are calling!

Sofie Claes December 25, 2018

Hi there,

After the warm Chili I just landed in the less warm Switzerland. Walking the Swiss Alps was on my bucketlist for along time already. For these walks, the proper outfit is necessary. That’s why I made myself a very comfy dungaree. It keeps me warm and is easy to walk in. If you want to make it yourself, here’s movie which explains how to do it! Next week I’ll post a video on how to make the shirt I’m wearing underneath my dungarees.

 Have fun!

 Dollie

How to sew a Chilean poncho

Sofie Claes December 4, 2018

Hi guys,

I’m in Chile, one of the Latin-American countries where the poncho is part of the traditional clothing. The traditional poncho in Chile is called a Chamanto. This is woven in silk thread and wool. The edges are finished with a ribbon. The traditional colors are grey, brown, red, black and white. What makes these Chamanto’s special is that they are reversible, as both sides are fully finished. The dark side is used during the day, and the light side is mostly worn at night.

I wouldn’t be a real fashion designer if didn’t design my own poncho for my visit to Chile. So I did! This is one of the easiest clothing pieces to make. It’s even a good one to make with your leftover fabrics.

Let’s get started!

How to make a poncho.jpg

Poncho

1. What do you need?

2. Cut out a rectangle of 10 cm x 20 cm out of plain fabric

3. Cut out

- 2 rectangles of 1 cm x 20 cm

- 3 rectangles of 1 cm x 10 cm

- 1 rectangle of 2 cm x 10 cm out of the printed fabric

4. Sew the printed rectangles to the corresponding sides of the plain rectangle, as seen on the picture.

5. Cut out a hole for the head in the middle of the poncho by folding it in the length and cutting the two pieces of fabric at once.

Have fun!

Dia de los Muertos in Mexico

Sofie Claes November 2, 2018

Hi guys!

When the end of October comes nearer, I always start looking forward to spooky times. I can’t get enough of Halloween and the tradition to dress up in the scariest outfits possible. But while Halloween has already passed, I really wanted to celebrate another scary holiday in Mexico, Dia de los Muertos.

This Day of the dead is a remembrance day for the Mexicans. They believe the souls of children come back on the first of November and the souls of adults on the second of November. That’s when they celebrate, dressing up in big dresses and making up their faces like beautiful skulls.

For the occasion I designed my own big layered dress with skulls on it. This dress is a scoop! The pattern of this dress will be included in the next collection of Dress Your Doll. I can’t wait to share it with you!

The pattern set I used for this dress was, of course, the Monster Selection PN-0164690.

Did you dress up for Halloween or Dia de los Muertos? I would love to see some pictures!

 Trick or treat!

 Dollie

Totally Trendy Totebag

Sofie Claes October 2, 2018

Hi there!

I’ve been in the USA for a while now. But I still hadn’t seen the statue of liberty. What a shame! So today I took a walk in the city to see it from up close.

Walking through the city I always carry a lot of stuff with me. To make this comfortable, I designed my own tote bag. Do you like it? A tote bag is a very easy statement piece to make.

Fabric set: PN-0164684 Violet

Fabric set: PN-0164684 Violet

  1. Choose a nice fabric

  2. Draw a rectangle of 12 cm x 5 cm and 2 strings of 10 cm length and 0,5 cm wide

  3. Cut out the pieces

  4. Fold the rectangle in the length so you get a rectangle of 6 x 5 cm (good side of the fabric inside)

  5. Sew the sides together

  6. Pin the handles to the bag

  7. Sew the handles to the bag

  8. Turn inside out

You’re done! Congrats!

If you want to make a tote bag for yourself, just multiply the measurements by 10.

Have fun stitching!

Dollie
