What is DressYourDoll?
DressYourDoll is a concept thought out by three women from Belgium, designed to get children to sew again! They find it really is a lost art that is making a comeback for women all over the world. And you bet, when their kids see them sewing, they want to get started too! DressYourDoll is a fun, easy way for children (and adults!) to learn how to sew. They simply have to cut out the preprinted patterns, fold them closed (with the colours on the inside!) and sew along the dotted lines. Because the fabric is stretchy, doesn't fray and is so easy to work with, the results are quick and beautiful: something they completely made themselves! Sewing also helps their fine motor skills and logical thinking, so it's a real benefit in their lives.
How do I get started?
With regular, preprinted DressYourDoll-outfits, you'll find a manual for each outfit on our website.
Here on our blog, our outfits are slightly more advanced; We don't work with preprinted outfits, but rather design them ourselves using our Fabric Sets. You'll be able to buy the needed patterns and accompanying Fabric Sets soon in our shop.
You will need:
- Fabric Scissors (make sure only to cut fabric with them, paper makes them blunt)
- Needle
- Yarn
- Pins
- Paper, for tracing your pattern (and paper scissors also!)
- Maybe some fabric accessories like buttons, ribbon or lace
Do I cut on the dotted line?
No, the dotted line is for sewing! Cut on the edge of the colour.
